Tashkent is the capital city of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the center of the Tashkent region. It is one of the largest cities in Central Asia with 11 districts and 1 town (Ulugbek). The ancient name of Tashkent was reportedly "Hair" and it is said to have been given the name "Tashkent" by the Arabs due to the absence of the letter "Ch" in the Arabic alphabet. The name is believed to derive from the word "stone" in Turkish, indicating a rocky village. Tashkent has a rich history, with influences from Chigatay in the 13th-14th centuries, Amir Temur in the 14th century, and the Timurids in the 15th century. The city saw developments in trade, culture, and architecture, with notable landmarks such as Registan, Shaikhontohur, and Joe mosque being built. In the 16th century, Tashkent underwent further improvements with new walls and the construction of architectural monuments like the Sheikh Hovandi Tohur mausoleum, Kokaldosh madrasa, and Baraqkhan.
