The imperative in German is used to give commands, advice, or requests. It is used in all three persons of the second singular and plural forms: "du", "ihr" and "Sie". Exceptions include verbs like "sein": "Sei!", "Seid!", "Seien Sie!". The imperative emphasizes direct address and the closeness of the relationship between speaker and listener
